Nick Taylor completes coast to coast bike ride (we are waiting for the pic as proof!)

charity cycle

There were 13 of us that started the bike ride in Whitehaven on Fri 5th Aug. We started by dipping our back wheel into the Irish Sea before setting off. Our first day was cycling through the Lake District to Penrith . It was a hilly ride with quite a lot of off road tracks , it was also very warm . We finished at 5.00pm.

Our second day was always going to be the toughest as we had to cycle over the Pennines to Stanhope , added to which the weather forcast was dreadful . We climbed lots of hills – over 6000feet in all during the day. The downhill bits were brilliant and I reached the top speed of 37 mph!! The weather sadly was not so brilliant as it rained pretty well all day. I managed to cycle up all the hills , without getting off to push once ! ( Honestly ! ) ............... No problem at all sleeping that night !

Our third and final day was brilliant as there was one hard hill to start with and then it was wind behind and downhill or flat for the rest of the day …..yippee!! arriving at the finish in Tynemouth dipping our front wheels in the North Sea completing 134 miles using 5333kcal - apparently ...... and enjoying a glass of well earned champagne.
